Education & Outreach Faculty

Sally Mitchell, Education and Outreach Director, co-founded the Medieval Women’s Choir with Margriet Tindemans as part of the Northwest Center for Early Music Studies.  She is a singer and recorder player who has performed and taught Medieval and Renaissance music throughout the Pacific Northwest.  As a recorder player, she has performed with the Medieval Women’s Choir, Bones ‘n Drones and Contrafacta ensembles for medieval music, the recorder ensemble Team Blockflute, plus has made many appearances with Baroque ensembles throughout the area.  She has taught recorder and Medieval and Renaissance music since 1990, is a past music director for the Moss Bay Recorder Society, has led groups for the Seattle Recorder Society and has taught at early music workshops throughout Washington state and in Oregon.  She was Education Coordinator for the Early Music Guild of Seattle from 1996 to 2000. Sally sings with the Medieval Women’s Choir and this is her fifth year of leading Zomerzang.

Bill McJohn specializes in historical harps and in the liturgical chant repertoire. He studied medieval music with Margriet Tindemans and early harps with Cheryl Ann Fulton and Maxine Eilander. He performs regularly with the Medieval Women’s Choir and has also performed with the medieval ensembles Contrafacta and Peregrine, the Seattle Continuo Ensemble, the Red Dragon Harp Ensemble, Ave Renaissance Women’s Choir, and the Women of St. James Schola.  He has taught at harp workshops in the Seattle area and taught chant for the Northwest Center for Early Music Studies. In the summer of 2021 he joined Sally Mitchell as faculty for the then-online Zomerzang instrumental sessions and led a session on medieval modes.
