Musica Practica:
A medieval band!

Spring 2026: April 22, 29, & May 6, 13
Wednesdays, 7:00 – 9:00 PM Woodlawn Center (Greenlake neighborhood)

Tuition: $200 for the 8-week course; $125 for each four-week block; $35 per class
Student (21 and under): $100 for full 8-week course; $60 each four-week block; $17 per class

This class, for intermediate and advanced instrumentalists, will introduce you to the knowledge, techniques, and skills used in combining mixed instruments to create an ensemble for medieval music. Medieval instruments are not required!  Bowed and plucked strings and non-transposing winds are welcome. Enrollment is flexible; you can enroll for individual dates, a single 4-week block, or the entire series.  However, the lessons will progress throughout the course, so attending as many as you can is to your advantage

What we’ll cover:

• Existing instrumental repertoire
• Vocal repertoire adapted for instruments
• Finding a part for your instrument in the ensemble
• Arranging the music
• Musical forms (instrumental and vocal) found in medieval music
• Modes and their use
• Extending the repertoire through improvisation and composition
